Assoc. Dr. Kübra Serefoğlu Cabuk

Board Certified Ophthalmologist

Hello, I am Associate Professor Kübra Şerefoğlu Çabuk.
My interest in ophthalmology began in my childhood under the influence of my father, Op.Dr. Mahmut Nedim Şerefoğlu, who was an ophthalmologist. When I chose Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, my goal was to become an ophthalmologist. When I started my medical education, I followed my passion for art and attended the painting courses of my esteemed teacher Atilla Önengüt, and continued this adventure for many years. In the following years, I started working with my beloved teacher Reza Hemmatirad. These courses not only taught me how to paint; they also allowed me to delve into the depths of art and gain new perspectives. The creative and aesthetic understanding that art has brought to both my personal and professional life inspires me in my work in the field of oculoplastic surgery today.

When I started my ophthalmology specialization, my great interest in oculoplastic surgery guided my education in this field. During my specialization at Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital, my education accelerated with the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Şafak Karslıoğlu, the pioneer of oculoplastic surgery.

After my compulsory state service, I worked as a chief resident at Bağcılar Education and Research Hospital and had the opportunity to conduct multidisciplinary studies in the field of oculoplasty and orbita. In 2018, upon the invitation of Prof. Dr. Muhittin Taşkapılı, I started working at the oculoplasty unit at Beyoğlu Eye Education and Research Hospital. I significantly improved my experience by working at a tertiary referral hospital, where I conducted many studies and published articles with my specialist and assistant colleagues. I earned the European Board of Ophthalmology diploma, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh membership, and the title of Associate Professor Doctor during this intense work tempo.

I took on the responsibility of the Oculoplastic Surgery unit as of 2021. In 2023, I moved to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, one of the important reference hospitals of Turkey, and diagnosed and treated many difficult and specific diseases with my expert teammates.

The details of each eye structure have always fascinated me, and sharing these details with my patients gives me satisfaction as a physician. Sharing these details with my patients is one of my greatest sources of motivation as a physician. In order to devote the necessary time to my patients, I started providing services in my own office as of September 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

eye aesthetics frequently asked questions

Treatment options for eye bags and dark circles may include laser treatments, chemical peels, filler injections, and in some cases, surgery. Treatment options vary depending on the cause and severity of the problem.

Thanks to modern techniques used in eye contour surgeries, incisions are usually made in the natural folds of the eyelid, so scars are minimized and may become unnoticeable over time.

Children's first eye exams should usually be done between the ages of 6 months and 1 year. This is important to detect potential vision problems at an early age.

Amblyopia, more commonly known as lazy eye, is a disorder of vision development that occurs during childhood. Treatment is usually done by covering the other eye for certain periods of time (occlusion therapy) to allow the lazy eye to be used more.

Refractive errors in children can present with symptoms such as blurred vision, eye strain, and headaches. Regular eye examinations allow early detection of such defects.

To protect children's eye health, families are advised to have regular eye check-ups, ensure that children read in adequate light, and limit the time spent in front of screens. In addition, encouraging children to participate in outdoor activities is also beneficial for eye health.

The inability of the eyes to close completely after eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is usually due to the removal of excess skin or fatty tissue. This condition may be temporary, but it may be permanent in some patients. First, it is important to be examined by an ophthalmologist to evaluate the extent of your complaint and your eye health. Artificial tear drops, ointments or temporary tapes may be recommended to protect the surface of the eye. If deemed necessary, corrective surgery may be planned.

The turning outward of the lower eyelid (ectropion) is a rare but significant complication following cosmetic surgery. This can cause dryness, watering, and irritation of the eyes. As a first step, a detailed eye examination should be performed to evaluate the condition of the eyelid. In mild cases, medical treatment and special exercises around the eyes may be sufficient, while in advanced cases, surgical intervention may be necessary again. It is important to see a specialist immediately to protect your eye health and prevent permanent damage.

The continuation of a tired appearance after eyelid aesthetics may be due to various reasons. This may be due to drooping eyebrows, bags under the eyes, skin tone differences or the structure of the facial muscles. In such cases, the eye area should be evaluated holistically. In addition to eyelid aesthetics, a more vigorous and youthful appearance can be achieved with complementary aesthetic procedures such as eyebrow lift, filler applications or laser.

To understand whether you are suitable for laser eye surgery, you need to undergo a detailed eye examination. During this examination, your corneal thickness, eye number stability, eye dryness and general eye health are evaluated. In addition, special examinations such as topography, pachymetry and refraction tests are performed. Based on this data, it is clearly determined whether your eye structure is suitable for laser surgery. Since each individual's eye structure is different, personalized evaluation is of great importance.

There are different methods in laser technology such as LASIK, PRK, SMILE and each method has its advantages and limitations. In order to decide which type of laser is most suitable for you, your eye structure is analyzed in detail. For example, PRK is preferred for people with insufficient corneal thickness, while LASIK may be more ideal for those with suitable structure. Your active lifestyle, profession and expectations also play a role in the selection of the method. The most suitable option for you is determined as a result of the evaluation made by your specialist physician.
